Care for your children

Make sure your children get the medical care they need and find out about childhood diseases and illnesses early.

Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) Services

AmeriHealth Caritas New Hampshire covers Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPSDT) services for members under the age of 21 years, including applied behavioral analysis (ABA) for members with a diagnosis of autism.

The EPSDT benefit is a comprehensive health benefit that helps meet children’s health and developmental needs. Covered benefits include age-appropriate medical, dental, vision, and hearing screening services at specified times, commonly referred to as well-child check-ups, and when health problems arise or are suspected.

In addition to screening, EPSDT services include all medically necessary diagnostic and treatment services to correct or improve a child’s physical or mental illness or condition. This is particularly important for children with special health care needs and disabilities.

Prior authorization from the plan is not required for EPSDT screenings. However, some treatment services do require a prior authorization.

For specialty treatment services or more information, contact Member Services at 1-833-704-1177 (TTY: 1-855-534-6730), 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Well-child visits

To stay healthy, young members need to visit with their PCP. These visits are called well-child visits. Well-child visits are important at every age. They are not the same as visits to the PCP when children are sick.

At a well-child visit, the PCP will examine your child. What the PCP does during the exam depends on your child’s age. The PCP will:

  • Ask questions about health topics, like:
    • Your child’s general health
    • Your child’s diet
    • Your child’s mental health
    • How your child acts with other kids of their own age
  • Order tests
  • Check your child’s growth based on their age

You will not be charged for a well-child visit.

If you have questions or want to find out more about this program, call AmeriHealth Caritas New Hampshire Member Services, at 1-833-704-1177 (TTY 1-855-534-6730), 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
